Louis Armstrong - Dinah

Pap’s Chops

Let that trumpet ruin the evil empire.
Like Miles Davis did the nuclear family,
accompanied by a ragtime quintet:
shaking the world to its soulful roots,
without regard for the few suits of clay;
wearing god in the diamonds of blood;
making our weakest of moments pray.
Accompanying John and Sonny at sax
beating the heart off of the midnight moon.
Killing every snowflake that dares fall
like the leaves did that beautiful autumn,
sacrificing the red and yellow tones
to the very tune of most beautiful blues;
enchanting the moon into making love
for one last time before letting in the sun,
arm in arm making its entrance with him.
Art Blackey’s ceaseless fire and his drums
leading the world into one beating heart,
one chance to make all of this mess right
and allow the children to roam again.
The Satchmo blessings endure for all time.
